Aerosol cans are based on a simple law of physics. When a gas is put under enough pressure, it liquefies, and when the pressure is removed from that liquid, it turns back into a gas. When the aerosol product is in the can, it is under pressure and in a liquid form. When it is released from the can, its surrounding pressure decreases and it turns into a gas.

Although we don’t recommend trying to break open an aerosol can so you can see the insides, it can be interesting to dissect one on paper. A can of spray paint, for example.
